Hancock announces £240m to stop winter bed-blockingPublished: Thursday, 4th October 2018
Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock is to announce a £240m package of social care funding to ease pressure on the NHS over the winter months.
The funding, to be distributed through local councils, is intended to help free up beds when vulnerable or elderly patients are ready to leave hospital by helping councils provide care at home. Mr Hancock is expected to tell the Conservative Party conference that: “I have already provided funding for hospitals to make upgrades to their buildings to deal with pressures this winter. And I can announce I am making an extra £240m available to pay for social care packages this winter.”
