People and Leadership Development

Leadership and people development is a major underlying focus of the IEWM approach. We have a major, innovative programme of activity designed to support the development of regional leaders. We also support close working across Organisational Development functions in the West Midlands with for example the new regional end-to-end talent management/recruitment system being a core shared product. In terms of people and leadership some of our key initiatives include:
  • A core skills programme for elected members;
  • The West Midlands Member Development Charter – with 21 of the West Midlands' 33 authorities signed up;
  • Subsidies for senior leaders (member and officer) to attend the IDeA Leadership Academy;
  • Catalyst and Accelerate – major development programmes for emerging leaders;
  • Coaching Pool – a major shared service built on utilising and developing coaching skills;
  • The Talent Exchange - a major new vehicle for sharing and building expertise across the West Midlands.
These core programmes are supplemented by sub-regional leadership allocations which localities can use to respond to their specific leadership priorities.
