25 May 2010 Building the capacity of Personal Assistants to deliver personal care
As local authorities drive forward their plans to transform adult social care services, there will be a sharp rise in the take-up of personal budgets, with 30% of eligible service users expected to be in receipt of a personal budget by March 2011. This is expected to create demand for directly employed Personal Assistants as more people take greater control of their individual support plans.

The total place approach is already gaining ground and the task now is to take it forward into everyday behaviour in public services. This round up of views from the regional improvement and efficiency partnerships (RIEPs) shows how local strategic partnerships (LSPs), which in turn bring together different parts of the private, voluntary and public sectors in promoting improvement initiatives, are being supported.

With declining resources and increasing demand, many councils are considering how to reduce costs while preserving key front-line services. The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), in partnership with Improvement and Efficiency West Midlands has launched a new resource to support councils in undertaking organisational redesign.
25 March 2010 Total Place: A whole area approach to public services
Total Place: A whole area approach to public services was published by the government last week. The report sets out a new direction for local public services and significant new freedoms from central control. It is based on extensive work over the last year by 63 local authorities, 34 primary care trusts, 13 police authorities and other partners, with more than 70 other local areas engaged in similar work.
