We have a very strong focus on efficiency in the West Midlands and have developed a significant programme of work over the last year supporting authorities and partnerships to work together to achieve efficiencies and to support improvement. That work is now starting to reach a critical mass and we have supported authorities to deliver almost £45m of efficiency savings since April 2008 - meaning we have already supported savings of over twice the value of the core CLG funding (c£17.6m) coming into the IEP for the first two years.
Over 50% of our programme is focused upon delivering efficiency returns against IEWM investment of at least 7:1 over the next three to five years and we are already securing immediate returns of well over £1m a month from our Smarter Procurement programme alone.
We are currently predicting a total of £175m gross cashable savings over a five year perio (substantially exceeding our initial target of £125m) alongside non-cashable savings of £5m.
Our work on efficiency has been focused around a number of key themes and there is a growing focus on working closely with authorities to ensure take up of our work.
